The verdict up front:

  • Uneekor EYE MINI if you want the most data from a portable camera unit, no marked balls and official GSPro support, and you're paying for the premium end of this group.
  • SkyTrak ST MAX if you want the biggest ecosystem of complete studio packages and a lower price tier, and you'll live inside SkyTrak's own software plans.
  • Square Golf Home Edition if your budget is tightest, the unit will never leave the house and you like credits instead of a subscription.

All three sit beside the ball rather than behind you, which is why they're the go-to units for short rooms. Our radar vs camera explainer covers why that matters.

The differences one by one

1. How they see the ball

Uneekor uses two high-speed photometric infrared cameras and what it calls Dimple Optix: the cameras read the dimples on a normal ball through impact, so you don't need marked balls or stickers on the ball. Club data comes from Club Optix, which recommends small stickers on the club face (the EYE MINI box includes 1,280 of them).

SkyTrak is a hybrid. A photometric camera images the ball at impact for launch and spin, and dual Doppler radar adds club data such as club head speed, path and face angle.

Square Golf uses two high-speed cameras on the Home Edition. Square Golf says you need its specially marked balls for spin measurement. The Omni Edition steps up to four cameras, outdoor use and more club data.

2. Portability: in the bay or out to the range

This is where the three Uneekor models split. The EYE MINI has battery power, an on-unit display and phone or iPad connectivity, and Uneekor sells it for indoor and outdoor use, with a carrying case. The EYE MINI LITE is a fixed indoor unit with a power cable and an Ethernet connection. The EYE MINI CORE is also indoor-only and reports 15 ball data points; club data needs a separate one-time unlock.

SkyTrak's FAQ calls its units portable, but the ST MAX spec sheet lists it as an indoor unit and warns against direct sun on the lens. Square Golf's Home Edition is indoor-only. If you want one camera unit for both garage and range, the EYE MINI is the clear choice here.

3. Software and fees

  • Uneekor: every unit includes the free Player tier, with ball and club data, the VIEW virtual driving range and basic reports. Third-party software (GSPro, E6, TGC 2019 per listings) needs a paid yearly tier, and Uneekor's higher tiers bundle a year of GSPro, Refine+ courses, AI Trainer or GAMEDAY. New devices include a 3-month Ultimate trial.
  • SkyTrak: yearly plans from Essential to Core to Elite, with Core offering Foresight or TrackMan course libraries. Our SkyTrak+ review breaks them down.
  • Square Golf: no subscription for the range. Course play uses credits: each device includes 1,000 welcome credits that don't expire. See our Square Golf review.

4. GSPro support

If GSPro is your sim of choice, check this before buying. GSPro's official list includes the Uneekor EyeMini and EyeMini Lite and Square's Home and Omni editions. It does not list SkyTrak; GSPro asks SkyTrak owners to lobby SkyTrak for support. SkyTrak has its own course options through its plans. Compare the programs in our golf simulator software guide.

5. Computer requirements

The EYE MINI treats a PC as optional, with the EYE MINI app on iOS and Android and VIEW Air on iPad. For PC simulation, Uneekor recommends a Windows 11 machine with a recent Core i7 or Ryzen 7 and 32 GB of RAM, and its Amazon listings mention an RTX 4070-class graphics card. The LITE's listings say a PC or laptop is required. SkyTrak and Square Golf run on tablets and phones for their own apps, with a PC needed for GSPro.

6. Space

All three sit beside the ball, so none adds the 6 to 9 feet behind the tee that radar units need. The EYE MINI's hitting zone is 12 x 8 inches per Uneekor. SkyTrak's FAQ suggests a 10 x 10-foot minimum with a net, and its studio packages start at a 8.5 x 15 x 8-foot room. Square Golf doesn't publish a room minimum. A 9-foot ceiling is the practical floor for a driver. Plug your numbers into our golf simulator room size calculator.

Which one for which room

Your situation Best fit Why
Short garage, one brand for everything SkyTrak ST MAX Side-of-ball, big package ecosystem, lower price tier
Short room, GSPro is a must Uneekor EYE MINI or EYE MINI LITE Officially supported by GSPro, no marked balls
Bay plus range days Uneekor EYE MINI Battery, on-unit display, indoor and outdoor
Tightest budget, indoor only Square Golf Home Edition Lowest tier, credits instead of a subscription
Dedicated room with a strong gaming PC Uneekor EYE MINI LITE Fixed, wired unit with the same 19 data points

Setup tips for any side-of-ball unit

Camera units are less fussy about depth but more fussy about placement and light:

  1. Level surface. Put the unit on the same level as the hitting surface, with nothing blocking its view of the ball.
  2. Mark the hitting zone. Keep the ball inside the unit's hitting zone every time (Uneekor lists 12 x 8 inches for the EYE MINI).
  3. Control glare. Avoid direct sunlight and bright reflections; SkyTrak specifically warns about sun on the lens.
  4. Use stickers and marked balls where asked. Uneekor's Club Optix stickers for club data, Square Golf's marked balls for spin.
  5. Plan for lefties. If both right- and left-handed players will hit, plan where the unit moves and add a little width, as SkyTrak advises.

Choose the Uneekor EYE MINI if…

  • you want one camera unit for the bay and the range;
  • you'd rather not mark balls;
  • you play GSPro and want official support.

How we compared them

We did not test these units ourselves. We compared Uneekor's EYE MINI, EYE MINI LITE and EYE MINI CORE product pages and membership table, SkyTrak's spec sheet, FAQ and plan descriptions, Square Golf's product pages and FAQ, GSPro's official supported-device list and current Amazon listings. Where listings conflicted with the maker (for example on battery life), we used the maker or left the figure out.

FAQ

Is the Uneekor EYE MINI better than SkyTrak?

They suit different buyers. The EYE MINI reads ball dimples with two infrared cameras, needs no marked balls, works indoors and outdoors and supports GSPro officially. SkyTrak's ST MAX pairs a camera with dual radar, has a huge range of studio packages and a lower price tier, but GSPro does not list it as officially supported.

What is the difference between the EYE MINI, EYE MINI LITE and EYE MINI CORE?

The EYE MINI is portable, with battery power, an on-unit display, iOS connectivity and putting analysis, for indoor and outdoor use. The EYE MINI LITE is a fixed indoor unit wired by Ethernet with the same 19 data points. The EYE MINI CORE is indoor-only with 15 ball data points; club data needs a paid one-time unlock.

Do you need special balls for the Uneekor EYE MINI?

No. Uneekor's Dimple Optix reads the dimples on a normal golf ball, so no marked balls are needed. Club data works best with the included Club Optix stickers on the club.

Does the Uneekor EYE MINI need a PC?

Not for the EYE MINI itself: Uneekor lists a PC as optional and supports the EYE MINI app on iOS and Android plus VIEW Air on iPad. The EYE MINI LITE listings call for a PC or laptop, and third-party simulators like GSPro need a Windows PC.

Is SkyTrak+ still sold new?

SkyTrak's own store now lists the SkyTrak+ as certified pre-owned and sells the ST MAX as its current model. Some Amazon packages still bundle the ST+, but the ST MAX is the safer new purchase.
